Move against unabated tax must go beyond urban areas: Naga Hoho

DIMAPUR, JUNE 18 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has stated that while the civil movement at Dimapur against unabated tax, under the aegis of the Naga Council needs encouragement, appreciation and support; “such a move towards curbing the unabated tax must go beyond urban areas.” A press note from the Publicity Wing of the Naga Hoho asserted that the move should also reach out to every Naga village, “so as to rescue the helpless villagers from this menace.”

It further said that rampant taxation/ extortion imposed upon the general public and upcoming entrepreneurs by National workers are a matter of great concern. The Naga Hoho while acknowledging that “any political movement or Revolutionary group survives only when there are selfless contributions from the people,” however said that “in the context of Naga freedom movement, the National workers must prove that they are worthy of their cause.”

The Naga Hoho reminded that it has “stated univocally from time to time in the past against the unabated taxation, which has become the bone of contention on the part of entrepreneurs in particular and the public in general.” It expressed concern that even small shops and rice mills in the Naga villages are not spared from this menace. The Naga Hoho said that “the ration tax contributed from every household once a year was the only means of income for the freedom fighters in the past as it was the only tax possible under the principles of Naga plebiscite, however, they could walk from Nagaland to China for our Naga cause.”
