Movement in big groups prohibited in Kiphire, Pungro

Dimapur, August 21 (MExN): The district administration of Kiphire has issued orders prohibiting assembly and movement of people following law and order situation. It is understood that tensions in Kiphire are high between Yimchunger and Sangtam communities. All village councils and GBs are ordered to ‘confine their villagers in their village’ or have their VDB funds impounded as well as pay a collective fine.

A copy of the district administration’s order was received here today from the Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire CM Tsanglao. A law and order situation has been created in Kiphire town and Pungro over the issue of Pungro town land dispute between Yimchunger and Sangtam communities, the order stated. The tensions are likely to affect peace and tranquility in the district considering ‘groupings’ of the two communities in the district, the administration stated.

The administration has ordered that movement of the public particularly Kiphire and Pungro is prohibited in ‘big groups’ from ‘one place to another.’ All VCCs and GBs are directed to confine their villagers within the village with immediate affect till the dispute between the two communities is “amicably settled.”   Any village found violating the order will be penalized “with imposition of collective fine” under the rules and “all VDB funds for the village shall be impounded.”
