Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, convened a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) on March 6 at the DC’s conference hall, under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP and DISHA chairperson S Supongmeren Jamir.
Addressing the meeting, Jamir said the purpose of convening the meeting was to review the implementation of various government schemes and ensure that their benefits reach the grassroots level.
He emphasised that projects should be implemented judiciously and that the selection of project areas and beneficiaries must be carried out carefully so that the schemes genuinely benefit the deserving sections of society.
Jamir also encouraged officials and committee members to openly share both the progress made and the challenges encountered in implementing the schemes so that issues can be addressed collectively. He added that matters which cannot be resolved at the district level could be taken up with the state-level committee headed by the Chief Minister.
Further, he expressed his aspiration to see a world-class railway station established in Dimapur and informed that discussions regarding the matter have already been held with the concerned department during an inspection at the railway station.
During the meeting, Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer welcomed the visiting MP and other dignitaries, thanking Jamir for visiting Dimapur. He described the MP as one of the most active and sincere members of Parliament and said the people of Dimapur look forward to his cooperation and initiatives for the development of the district.
Highlighting the importance of Dimapur, Longkumer stated that the district belongs to every Naga as people from all tribes live and work there. Unlike other districts that are largely associated with particular tribes, he noted that Dimapur is a shared city for all Nagas and appealed to the MP to give special attention to its development.
He also pointed out that although Dimapur has become a major district, it is largely urban with limited land available for expansion and infrastructural development. In view of this constraint, he said the focus should be on improving and strengthening the existing infrastructure and facilities in the district.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Dr Tinojongshi Chang welcomed the Member of Parliament, officials and non-official members to the meeting and thanked them for attending the programme. He informed that the meeting had originally been scheduled last year but had to be postponed due to various engagements. He also appreciated the MP for making time to attend the meeting and acknowledged the presence of officers from different departments responsible for implementing various government programmes and projects in the district.
During the meeting, officials and non-official members reviewed the implementation of various government schemes in the district. Developmental issues and challenges faced in executing projects were presented through PowerPoint presentations and discussions.
DISHA members under Dimapur district also submitted two copies of the technical status report highlighting their departments’ latest activities, including achievements of targets, coverage and performance under DISHA in the district.
PowerPoint presentations were made by the departments of PHED, Medical, Education, Finance, Social Welfare, Urban Development, the Nagaland Pollution Control Board and DRDA.
