Dimapur, December 19 (MExN): Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland S.Phangnon Konyak has written to the Chairman of the Upper House, alleging misbehaviour by Congress Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a peaceful protest at Parliament House.
In her letter, Konyak stated that she was participating in the protest “against the atrocities committed by the Congress Party against Hon’ble Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar.” She was standing below the staircase of Makar Dwaar with a placard when the incident occurred.
Konyak claimed that despite a passage being cordoned off by security personnel for the movement of other Members of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi and other party members “came in front of me.” She alleged that Gandhi “misbehaved with me in a loud voice” and stood in such “physical proximity to me” that she, as a lady member, felt “extremely uncomfortable.”
“I stepped aside with a heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way,” Konyak wrote.
The MP, who emphasised that she belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community of Nagaland, said that her “dignity and self-esteem” had been “deeply hurt” by Gandhi's actions. She concluded by seeking the protection of the Chairman, stating, “Hon’ble Chairman, Sir, I seek your protection.”
