Dimapur | May 16
The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Council of India (MSME PCI), Dimapur, organised an Outreach and Sensitisation Programme in Dimapur on May 16. According to the MSME Dimapur office, it was an initiative to create awareness and highlight various schemes and opportunities from government bodies for entrepreneurs, startups, self-help groups, and aspiring business owners.
At a time when job avenues in the government sector have become saturated, State MSME PCI Chairperson Lanuakum Jamir called upon the youth to grab hold of the opportunities in the MSME sector.
“Today we must openly acknowledge one reality, government jobs have become impossible, has become highly saturated and limited,” Jamir said, while urging the youth to transition from job seekers to job creators.
To assist business owners struggling with regulatory procedures, Jamir announced that the MSME PCI will launch a Financial Compliance Program in mid-June 2026. The initiative will provide compliance services, including GST filing, business registrations, accounting, and loan documentation support.
Jamir outlined the Chief Minister's Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI), which offers up to Rs 50 lakh in loans with a 30 percent government subsidy. Participants were also briefed on the Swavalamban Connect Kendra (SKC) implemented by SIDBI and IDAN, which facilitates bank loan linkages. Additionally, details were shared regarding NABARD schemes, including the Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (REDP) and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP).
District Employment Officer (DEO) Gideon Sumi highlighted the necessity of acquiring technical skills before applying for financial assistance. “You just cannot go and approach a financial institution or bank holding just an Aadhaar card with you. You need to have a certificate with you. That is where skill development comes in,” he said. As per government data, Nagaland has over 72,000 registered educated unemployed individuals with Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts accounting for more than 23,000 of these registrations.
Providing information on skill acquisition, Awolo Keppen, Manager at the Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC) Dimapur, outlined the institution’s training options. Short-term courses run under central schemes like DDU-GKY, PMKVY, and PM Vishwakarma, while long-term paid diploma courses cover mechanical and computer science engineering.
Keppen stated that NTTC operates a Common Facilities Center and features Centers of Excellence in Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence. He added that the institute assists innovators in developing custom machinery. NTTC is also running a ‘Jobs in Germany’ programme to train and place candidates internationally.
