WOKHA, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): The first Inter-School Sepaktakraw Tournament organised by Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA-Sepak) culminated today at Wokha local ground, with K Libemo Jami, Youth Resources & Sports Officer & DSO In-charge as guest of honour.
Mount Carmel School, Wokha emerged as the champions in both the Under-14 Boys and Under-17 Boys category, while SMBH School bagged the runners-up in the U-14 Boys and Mount Sinai School in the U-17 Boys category. In Senior Girls too, Mount Carmel School, Wokha bagged the title while Mount Sinai School was the runners-up.
Handing over the certificates and running trophy to the winners, K Libemo Jami urged the players to continue giving extra effort while exhorting that champion belongs to those people who run the extra mile. Highlighting the importance of sports, Jami underscored that career in sports is not only confined to playing in the field but there are professional courses like nutrition athlete diet, physical education, health education and sports sciences etc that one can take up.
He encouraged the players from the district to give their best effort and build consistency in their respective field of sport so that they will one day represent the district, state and even at the national level. He also assured that the department will make arrangements in sending players for proper training and coaching to Dimapur.
All together 16 teams from five schools in the categories of under 14, 17 for men and senior girls participated in the tournament.
