The Crusader Club of the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) Youth Department organised its 15th edition of ‘Reconnect’ at Yimchalu, Mokokchung with Akangtemsu, Youth Evangelist, MTBA YD and Lungleng, Social Consultant and talk show host as the speakers.
In the first session, Akangtemsu spoke based on the Bible verses John 15: 1-8. He stressed the issue of dualism, where there should be a complete separation of the flesh and the spirit and heaven and hell.
He mentioned that as young individuals grow older, they tend to detach themselves from church activities and give more importance to worldly activities, creating dualism.
He encouraged the gathering to check our belief system and maintain a balance between our devotion and our real lives, creating a balance. He said that duality has to be integrated organically if we are to live a fruitful life.
In session two of the programme, Lungleng spoke on the topic “Ageism is the new Racism,” where he defined ageism as a stereotype, a prejudice, or discrimination against any individual based on age. He said that age is not a problem to be solved but something that everyone needs to accept. He also mentioned that we consciously or unconsciously adopt ageism when we are as young as four years old.
He took to the bible to give instances of how God used people like David and Sarah stating that God does not talk about ageism nor does he see age as a criterion to choose people. Lungleng also talked about the need to respect our elders without going too far and compromising what is good in the process.
He also encouraged the crusaders to engage in de-constructing our culture and to develop a habit of critical thinking and as youths take cognizance of the issues in our society and lead the society in the right path.
The sessions ended with a discussion hour. The crusaders in the Reconnect programme also engaged in recreation and other activities.
