MTLT calls for brainstorming to mitigate road accidents

Mokokchung, September 21 (MExN): Following the tragic vehicle collision that killed 8 people on September 20 at K Station village, Tseminyu, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has expressed anguish and called for brainstorming to mitigate road accidents.

A press release from the MTLT said “words are insufficient to express our sorrow and our feeling of loss is accentuated by the fact that all the victims were in the prime of their youth; some of them had recently cleared the competitive exams and were about to join their service. It is a great loss for the Naga society indeed.”

At the same time, the MTLT said it is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from different quarters during and after the tragedy. The prompt action of the Nagaland Police in Tseminyu and Wokha, the SDRF personnel and all the civil society organizations who have rendered their great help is deeply appreciated, it stated.

It further appreciated the Chief Minister for announcing the ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the victims’ families. The MTLT also appreciated Home Minister Y Patton for ordering a thorough investigation into the accident.

Further, the MTLT appealed to the Nagaland Transport Department and its nodal agencies to seriously take note of the rising number of accident cases in the state which is taking many lives thereby leaving many families in a state of utter loss. It suggested that the concerned department initiate thorough brainstorming sessions involving all stakeholders so that a viable solution can be worked out.

In this regard, the MTLT said it is willing to render support – intellectually and logistically – if the concerned government agencies should be in need of help to ensure safer streets and highways.
