Mokokchung, June 15 (DIPR): In an effort to have clean electoral roll in the State, Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Sanjay Kumar had wide ranging discussions with officials, civil society leaders, ward and village council members and student leaders of Mokokchung district who are actively involved in the ongoing National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) exercise on June 15.
Addressing the meeting at Mokokchung Town Hall, Sanjay Kumar said that nationwide NERP exercise is to have clean electoral roll which will eventually lead to have clean elections in the country. He said it is one of the most ambitious efforts ever made in the country focusing on what type of electoral roll India should have.
Commenting on the ongoing NERP exercise in Mokokchung district, the CEO said, a good breakthrough has been made in the district, but much more needs to be done. He asserted those who should not be there in the electoral roll should not be there and who are eligible should be enrolled. He further said the percentage in the NERP exercise should be further improved. He called upon AEROs, BLOs and Supervisory Officers to ensure that no one should be enrolled twice in the e-roll. He also stressed on the need to link EPIC with Aadhaar card. Calling upon ward and village council members to play a vital role, Sanjay Kumar said without their cooperation things will not improve.
During technical session with Head of Offices and BLOs in the district, he said proper attention should be given to get rid of all the bogus voters from the e-roll. He also shared the need to provide basic facilities in all the polling stations in the district.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Moa and other officers accompanying the CEO called upon the participants to make greater efforts stating it is a mandatory duty for all to clean the e-roll in the state. Allaying apprehension in the minds of the people, they said that cleaning e-roll will not affect funding on development nor will it affect the delimitation process in the future.
