Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The Department of Sericulture Nagaland conducted the ‘Muga and Eri Vanya Krishi Mela’ and the ‘Eri and Muga Awareness camp’ organized by the Central Silk Board at the District Sericulture Office, Dimapur on March 23 and 24 respectively. During the inaugural programme, Dr. BK Singh, Scientist- D & Head MSSO, Central Silk Board, Guwahati delivered the welcome address and felicitated the dignitaries on the dais.
The Director of Sericulture Nagaland, Chandan Basera, who was the chief guest for the occasion encouraged the farmers to maintain sufficient host plant plantation to facilitate rearing of silkworms throughout the year. In his brief speech, he also urged the farmers and the department to coordinate well for synergistic growth and motivated the farmers to focus on large scale production.
Chubameren, Joint Director, encouraged the farmers to learn from such programmes and to apply the knowledge gained to their field activities. Asangla Alinger, Deputy Director stressed on technical know-how and sincerity of the farmers, while T. Sanny Pongener, Deputy Director, asked the farmers to put in their best effort and use their knowledge of sericulture to earn an income. District Sericulture Office, Dimapur, Yashimeren offered words of gratitude to the organizers and the attendees for making the programme a grand success.
During the technical session, Dr. B.K. Singh was the resource person. The topics covered were package of practices for cultivation of host plant and rearing of Eri and Muga silkworms. Other invitees included Sericulture Officer Vikehelie Pienyu, Assistant Supervisors SR Das and BC Deb. A total of 120 farmers attended the programmes.
