MUK clarifies on news item

Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): Apropos to the news item “3 arrested for possession of ganja” carried January 25 issue of this paper, the Mao Union Kohima has clarified that one person among the three attributed as a Mao does not belong to its community   A press release regarding the arrest has mentioned that Abina Mao along with two other were caught with approximately 80 kgs of ganja by 164 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) Naga manning a mobile vehicle check post at Phesama village on January 20.   Reacting to the news item, the MUK in press note issued by its General Secretary, D Neli Koso stated, “From the report it would appear that an individual named Abina Mao would be from Mao community. However, after ascertaining certain facts it has come to the notice of the Mao Union Kohima (MUK) that the lady in question does not belong to the Mao community.”   In this context, while expressing appreciation to the works been done by the Security Forces in curbing smuggling of narcotics by antisocial elements, the MUK maintained that, “They also keep in mind that any press release should be based on facts and that the identity of any individual apprehended by them is verified beforehand prior to a press release.”   The clarification has been necessitated in order to keep records in the right perspective, it added.
