Multispeciality, cancer screening camp benefits over 500 in Peducha

Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): A multispeciality and cancer screening camp was organised at the Health and Wellness Centre in Peducha village on April 26, benefiting residents from Peducha, Kiruphema Basa, Bawe and Mengujuma villages.

The camp was organised by the Dr K & T Keditsu Foundation, a registered public charitable trust founded in 2016, in collaboration with the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) under the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland. It was supported by the Biocon Foundation, Bengaluru, and Putuonuo Hospital, Kohima.

According to an official update, a total of 521 free consultations were conducted across various specialities, including general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology and dental care.

Diagnostic services such as free blood tests, ultrasonography, ECG, and minor procedures were also provided. As part of the initiative, 140 individuals underwent free cancer screening for oral and cervical cancer.

Free medicines and spectacles were distributed to beneficiaries. A total of 30 medical personnel participated in the camp, including 10 doctors from Putuonuo Hospital, NIMSR, NHAK and private clinics, along with 20 paramedical staff from Putuonuo Hospital. Eight social workers from the Dr K & T Keditsu Foundation and staff of the Peducha Health and Wellness Centre also assisted in the programme.

The event also featured an awareness session on oral health and cancer. The session was chaired by Community Health Officer Neikuonuo, while Dr Neilakuo Kire, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Putuonuo Hospital, introduced the medical team.

Dr Meribeni Odyuo, former Director of Dental Services under the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, highlighted the importance of oral health, while Dr Neiphrezo Sorünuo, Dental Surgeon at NHAK, spoke on the risks and symptoms of oral cancer.

A special address was delivered by Dr Kezevituo Keditsu, Managing Director of Putuonuo Hospital. Words of gratitude were expressed by Peducha village elder Kekuolhouca and Village Council Chairman of Kiruphema Bawe, Dzüviu Zhünyü. The programme concluded with a prayer by Dolhuvo of Peducha village.
