DIMAPUR, AUGUST 16 (MExN): The Naga Hoho today stated that it along with various tribe hohos have been spearheading the movement for review of the Municipal Act of 2001 & 2006, “as it is directly linked with the rights given to the Naga people under Article 371 (A).” A press note from the Naga Hoho further stated it has no objection for exhibiting one’s desire and interest in a democratic society towards one of the contentious issues pertaining to Municipal Act vis-a-vis 33% women Reservation under ULBs elections. In response to a recent statement by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) regarding this issue, the Naga Hoho made it clear that “we are an organization with the mandate and support of our respective tribe Hohos and not attached to any political party.” It further stated that as “traditional and social organization, the Naga Hoho is unequivocally clear that the Municipal Act is in contravention with the traditional and customary usages of the Nagas which is enshrined under Article 371(A) of the Indian constitution and therefore it is our bounden duty to safeguard the rights of the Nagas.”
