DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 1 (MExN): One person has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment by the District and Sessions Judge, Phek, Neiko Akami on August 31.
A press release from the Public Prosecutor, Phek, Samuel Ritse informed that the accused, identified as one Kuvekho Tunyi and the victim, Zuneyo Puro went for hunting on July 21, 2021. It was reported that the accused shot the victim and the victim’s dead body was found by the brother of the deceased that night when he went searching for them. “Based on circumstantial evidence and expert opinion, the accused was proved to have shot dead the deceased,” the Public Prosecutor informed. The accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 302/201 IPC r/w Section 27 (1) of Arms Act 1959.
The Court further ordered that an amount of Rs 2 lakh is to be awarded under the Victim Compensation Scheme. The case was investigated by Khuzah Jurry, SDPO, Pfutsero.
