Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): The police have captured two NSCN/GPRN cadres accused of kidnapping and subsequently murdering a Dimapur trader on May 12 in Dimapur. The accused are identified as one Kevingol Sophie so-stated “ss regional intelligent officer” of NSCN/GPRN and son of one Puhokhwel from Jakhama village and the other accused, one John Chakhesang, a NSCN/GPRN “pvt” and of Khezakeno village.
The office of the Director General of Police and the Dimapur Superintendent of Police’s office issued separate press releases today informing of the arrest. The police said “a case” has been registered against the cadres for the crime. Kohima police captured the said Kevingol on May 13 from Kohima. The same day in Dimapur, the Dimapur police captured the said John from 7th Mile Sozulhou village, Dimapur. Investigations are on, the DGP’s administration informed. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused persons involved in the case, the police said.
In addition, Dimapur police said the NSCN/GPRN cadres are charged with kidnapping the trader for ransom, and subsequently murdering him. The police have expressed gratitude to the public and volunteers for their support and cooperation. “As in any police operation, inconveniences might have been caused to the general public and especially to some students who were taken into custody during the operation for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the crime, is highly regretted,” the police said.
