Trainees participate in the practical demonstration of mushroom bed preparation during the training on year round mushroom cultivation organized by ICAR, Nagaland Centre at Ahthibung.

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): ICAR research complex for NEH region, Nagaland Center is popularizing its low cost scientific and organic mushroom production technology in the State. The technology developed by the institute is becoming popular amongst the local growers and the farming community is coming forward to reap the benefits of subsidiary income through this venture.
A daylong ‘training on year round mushroom cultivation’ was organized by ICAR, Nagaland Centre at Ahthibung of Peren district sponsored under the tribal sub plan project. All together, 62 participants representing Ahthibung, Inbung, Pellhang, Saijang and Songlhuh participated in this training. The trainees gain knowledge of low cost organic mushroom cultivation, nutritional value, distinction between poisonous and non-poisonous mushroom and different species of oyster mushroom suitable for growing in different season. The trainees had practical experience of mushroom bed preparation by polybag method.
The resource persons of the training were Tasvina R. Borah, Scientist Plant Pathology ICAR and Joseph Kikon, technical officer of ICAR. The programme was concluded by distribution of mushroom spawn packets to the trainees and words of thanks by Pallal Misao and Hellam Siplhou of Kuki Baptist Church Association.
