Kezevilie Zinyu’s love affair with music stretches back to his childhood days. Today he owns one of Kohima’s largest music academy and rehearsal studio- Musicians’ Studio.
Kezevilie is an acclaimed musician widely considered for being a diverse figure in the music business. He is also the winner of the Guitar Recital in the Inter District Youth festival organized by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland. He was also the leader of the Music Core Team and the worship leader for Naga Christian Fellowship Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.
“Ever since high school days, music was my passion. After my high school graduation, I studied bachelors in music from Patkai College but I took a break from music and completed my masters in Sociology,” Kezevilie recollects while sharing about his bond with music.
Kezevilie left his government job and started the Musicians’ Studio in 2015 following his love and passion for music. Musicians’ Studio offers both music training and jamming pad for all kinds of practices and rehearsals for musicians.
“This academy is for all ages and all levels to learn music the right way and we provide all the music instruments required,” Kezevilie says adding that although everyday is a struggle, but he is happy and contented with what he is doing in life.
The Musicians’ Studio is housed in a spacious facility at the Red Cross Society building, in P.R. Hill, Kohima, and boasting four classrooms and a spacious jamming pad.
In his opinion, “Even though a musician might be very talented, successful and gifted, the mentality of the parents in our Naga society does not consider music as a serious medium to earn a living.” He continues, “That is one of the biggest challenges faced by Naga musicians. Parents still consider music as a hobby but looking at the juncture Nagaland is at right now in terms of unemployment crises, slow and steadily music scene in Nagaland is coming to take its form and the music business is thriving at its best.”
“The most important thing is to always stay active and energetic, one cannot be lazy to become a successful musician, and we have to keep in touch with the music on a daily basis, practice every day and work hard if you want to succeed in the music industry,” he asserted.
He also adds that “To be a music instructor is not an easy job. It is a very tiresome job not like the traditional academic schools, it is totally different but it is a fun job.”
The Musicians’ Studio aims to promote music education not just in Kohima but in other districts as well. Musicians’ Studio strives to be a community destination by providing the students and fellow musicians with better instruments, appropriate sound treatment, and practice spaces.
“Music studios have to be upgraded every year so I keep on upgrading yearly and I am planning on expanding the academy, open new branches in other districts and I’m opening a music store as well. It is far-fetched but I am planning on opening a sound systems store in the near future,” Kezevilie said.
He also lamented that when it comes to getting help from the government, “it is biased to particular musicians instead of looking after the whole music community of the state.”
“With any kind of business, you need clearly defined goals to know where you are heading in life. Add to that hard work and invest your time, learning the craft and you will most likely reach where you want to be tenfold,” Kezevilie states encouraging all aspiring musicians and music entrepreneurs to stay focused, work hard and be mindful of how you spend your time.
“If you have a passion for music do not be lazy, grab every opportunity that comes your way and do not waste your time on gaming and the best is yet to come,” he stated.
The Musicians’ Studio is located at Red Cross Society building, P.R. Hill, Kohima, 797001.
