Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): The Mao Union Kohima has stated that Th Muivah and the ‘National Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM)’ are not terrorist as per GoI Terrorist Act and the Government of Manipur labeling them as terrorist is not logical. “A constitutional government should not misuse power.”
In regard to Home Secretary, G K Pillai’s statement that “the economic blockade is totally illegal”, the Union in a press note issued by its President H Lokho retorted that denying visit to own birth place is more illegal and unconstitutional.
It also stated that the Imphal Valley is most developed at the cost of Hill Districts as hill districts are kept totally underdeveloped. “…Meities have been adopting all means to legitimize land acquisition by Manipur Land Revenue Act, Manipur Forest Act and Amendment of Autonomous District Council Act which otherwise Meities cannot annex land of the Nagas in Manipur which constitute of more than 16,000sq km where as Meities live within 2200sq km in Imphal Valley (the so called Manipur). The Imphal based civil societies represent this tiny geographical land of the State with overwhelming majority of population over the small population of the 5 Hill Districts of Manipur.”
Moreover, the present election for the Autonomous District Council, in spite of vehement opposition from all sections of Nagas in Manipur, the “Government of Manipur have house arrested all the candidates, bribed, forcibly used to contest and win mostly uncontested under duress. Therefore the election is null and void, and economic blockade is the last resort as democratic means to represent their resentment over the suppression of human rights in Manipur.”
