Kohima, December 27 (MExN): The 24th sports meet of Meriema Village Youth Games & Sports Association (MVYGSA) got underway today at Meriema ground with 11th Northern Angami A/C -11 NDPP president Vibeilietuo Kets as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Kets said the present state government under the chief ministership of Neiphiu Rio, is giving due importance to sports to groom the talented youth in the state.
Stressing on the need to adopt a clean environment, he urged upon the six khels of the village to maintain cleanliness.
He reminded the gathering that any village or society cannot progress if they are individualistic and narrow minded.
He called upon the villagers to work together to usher peace, love and brotherhood.
The inaugural programme was led by Mhasizolie while presidential address was delivered by Medongulie Keditsu.
Games & sports secretary Luolazotuo Yaotsu administered oath to the participating teams.
Featuring football, volleyball and track & field events, the five-day long sports meet would conclude on December 31.
