It is true that blood is thicker than water but some relationships are far from stronger than the ties of blood, clan, race or status. I am fortunate to have shared such a bond with Mr. Neisatuo. As a little boy, I was fascinated by his skills of swimming, fishing, hunting and oratory. His interest in boxing, Football and wrestling were amazing. As a teenager, I was the beneficiary of his act of kindness, when he waived off my school fees for a complete academic year. As a young man I was inspired by his philosophy of leadership, whose trademarks were honesty, sense of services and wellbeing of all. He displayed humility in victory and grace in defeat. He stood up for the rights firmly without any discriminations, fear or personal gain or any consequences both in the court of law and in any common social forum. Under his leadership, a master plan for the Dimapur Town was initiated. The road were widened up. The prices of commodities monitored. A Park was dedicated to the citizen of Dimapur in the heart of the town. Law enforcing agencies were empowered and their grievances were heeded to. He was considering police reforms quite seriously to enforce law and order more effectively.
Above all, he was a large hearted brave gentleman. His ability to smile radiantly even distress was amazing. He believed in simplicity and dignity of work. His faith in Christ was very strong though he never made a public show of it. The values which he lived with shall be cherished and continue to inspire us.
I shall miss him deeply as much as I miss my father.
In this hour of bereavement I draw strength from the verse and I quote:
“Those who live good lives find peace and rest in death”. (Isaiah 57:2)
May the God Almighty shower peace on his soul!
