Zunheboto, November 3 (MExN): Nagaland University, as part of the observance of ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, organized one day workshop at Headquarters Lumami on November 3 under the theme ‘My Vision – Corruption Free India.’
Chairperson of the programme, Dr. Anthony V Richa, Deputy Registrar said that a way forward to corruption-free India was personal conviction not to fall prey to corruption.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Pardeshi Lal, Vice-Chancellor. He began by revealing that it was through the suggestion made by T.N. Seshan, the former Chief Election Commissioner of India that the practice of observing ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ began. He spoke about the comprehensive prevalence of corruption in India, past and present. He also dwelt upon intellectual integrity, financial integrity and ethical integrity. He said the vision for corruption-free India would require everyone working for higher ideals like excellence, perfection and creativity, involvement of the public, use of RTI, positive role of media, and revolution in the manner of the French and Russian revolutions.
In a speech on behalf of students, Chumseli Anar, President, NUSU (Lumami) spoke on the corruption happening in every nook and corner, and in different degrees, while also making practical suggestions for corruption-free India.
The Vigilance Speech was delivered by Prof. MK Sinha, Registrar I/c. By citing personal examples, he emphasized the necessity of vigilance. He also talked about three types of vigilance: preventive vigilance, surveillance or detective vigilance, and reactive or punitive vigilance. He then led the Integrity Pledge.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. C.R. Deb, Dean Students Welfare. The programme was attended by faculty, administrative staff and students.
