Myki Fest 2025: Celebrates women’s achievements

As part of the Hornbill Festival 2025, the Department of Women Resource Development has organised the Annual Myki Fest at its Directorate at Bayavü colony in Kohima. 

Kicking off the Fest this evening, the festival celebrates the achievements, talents and contributions of women across Nagaland, from skilled artisans and home-grown entrepreneurs to trained professionals from various centres.

Initially introduced in the year 2018, the festival has grown into a vibrant platform showcasing the talent, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of women from across Nagaland.

Over the years, Myki Fest continues to stand as a testament to women’s empowerment, creativity and economic participation which has become an important annual event of the Hornbill Festival.

Speaking at the event, Zhothisa Dawhuo, Secretary, WRD reiterated the department’s commitment to empowering women while emphasising that the festival is designed to showcase women’s talents and recognise the vast potential they possess.

Dawhuo maintained that MykiFest has always aimed to break barriers and uplift the strengths and capabilities of women from all walks of live. To this end, he encouraged all to continue to support and motivate women to excel, acknowledging their contributions as “essential to building a stronger and more inclusive society.”

He also urged the officers and staff of the department to remain dedicated in strengthening the initiatives that support women’s growth and self-reliance.

While reaffirming the department’s unwavering support, Dawhuo announced that future editions of the festival would be even larger, with plans to organise an expanded event at Kisama. The enhanced platform, he viewed will enable women from every corner of the State to showcase their products and talents, ensuring that opportunities continue to reach every aspiring woman entrepreneur.

In his opening remarks, Director, Vilone Sakhrie highlighted the purpose behind the initiative. Myki Fest, stating that it is more than just a celebration, it is a recognition of the “immense contributions women make every day in our lives, in our families, in our society, and in the state as a whole.”

Sakhrie has encouraged the visitors to enjoy the food, experience the music, and support women entrepreneurs by purchasing locally made products. “These are all our women entrepreneurs. I encourage not only you but also the officers and staff of the department to buy, eat, and encourage our women,” Sakhrie said.

On December 6, the Fest will feature “Her Stories,” a special literary gathering with home grown Anthology of new writings from Nagaland including Sentinaro, Vishü Rita Krocha, Avinuo Kire, Kenya Yanlem, Adenuo Shirat Luikham, Imlikokla Jamir, Elongshila Jamir and Vizovonuo Elizabeth.
