The 4th edition of Myki Fest under the initiative of the Department of Women Resources Development got underway at Sakhrie Park, Kohima on December 6.
In his introduction, Vilone Sakhrie, Director of Women Resource Development noted that being the state department for women, working for the social and economic empowerment of women, it came across many talented entrepreneurs, artisans, artists, and talented women in all the fields.
He highlighted that Myki Fest is being held not only to recognise them but also to celebrate their contributions to the economic social development as equal partners as men. Earlier, he said, “women were looked down as housekeepers and their contribution was not recognised much.” However now, stating that in Nagaland women are doing better in many fields whether it is academically or enterprising ventures, he said, women are contributing in so many ways.
“And that's how we celebrate them,” he added while putting across that, “we also want to provide a platform for upcoming singers, and entrepreneurs in various fields”. Various Stalls have been set up as part of the Myki Festival to further showcase their talents. He also acknowledged Anenla T Sato (IAS), Commissioner & Secretary, Women Resources Development & Horticulture, who, he added, “has been a source of ideas and guided us in many ways, also allowing us to implement our own ideas that we are able to have a day such as this.”
‘Myki products have become very popular’
In her address, Anenla T Sato (IAS) remarked that Myki products have become very popular despite the festival coinciding with the Hornbill Festival. Stating that it has drawn “good response,” she pointed out that the women resources development is a very particular department in the government of Nagaland whereas there are no women resources development departments in other states.
Towards this end, she acknowledged the Chief Minister, who recognised the potentialities of women in joining together as equal partners as men for economic sustenance. Very recently, she informed that the state of Sikkim has also replicated it. “We should also do much better and we should be more innovative and more focussing,” she articulated.
The prime objective of the Myki Fest, she highlighted is to acknowledge and celebrate successful women who have broken barriers and become successful women. She further said that this year, the Fest is aimed at musicians and singers. In this regard, open solo singing competition (English) is being held.
Earlier, she also unfurled the Department of Women Resource Development Flag while Zajamo Odyuo, Associate Pastor, City Church, Kohima said the prayer.
