MZP apprehend 20 people during ILP drive

Newmai News Network Aizawl | August 20   At least 20 people whose names have been reportedly left out in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) list in Assam have been apprehended by volunteers of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex student body of Mizoram, during checking across Mizoram, sources from MZP claimed on Monday.   According to the sources, MZP was on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) drive since Friday during which 20 people whose names have been reportedly left out in the NRC were apprehended.   Of the 20, four were apprehended in Aizawl, while 16 others were apprehended at Vairengte near Mizoram-Assam border, a MZP leader said. All the 20 apprehended persons were pushed back to Assam, the MZP leader said.   He also said that a number of MZP leaders led by their president, L Ramdinliana Renthlei on Monday headed to Vairengte, Bairabi and Saiphai to set up check gates there. The MZP leaders will also inspect some routes from where “illegal immigrants” could enter Mizoram, he added.   Earlier, the student body had asked the state government of Mizoram to beef up security along the Mizoram-Assam border to curb possible entry of “illegal immigrants” from Assam following NRC exercise.
