N Obang MFT emerged as the champion of the 13th Marsosang Football Trophy 2023, organized by Rocky Club in Chuchuyimlang.
CHUCHUYIMLANG, DECEMBER 16 (MExN): N Obang MFT emerged as the champion of the 13th Marsosang Football Trophy 2023, organized by Rocky Club in Chuchuyimlang. The tournament commenced on December 12 at Langpangkong Tsükong GHS Chuchuyimlang play ground with twelve participating teams. N Jamonger Ao, Assistant Director of Food & Civil Supplies Mokokchung, Nagaland, served as the chief guest for the event.
The defending champions, N Obang Memorial Football Team (MFT), secured victory over Team Gilgal in a penalty shootout, with a score of 5-4, following 90 minutes of regular play, 6 added times, and an extra 7 + 7 minutes with no goals scored.
The champions and the runner-up received a cash prize along with the trophy and certificates.
Individual awards were presented to Limakumzuk from United Boys for Best Defender, Hamugha from N. Obang MFT for Best Goalkeeper, Bapen from Team Gilgal for Player of the Tournament, and Thejasetuo from Team Gilgal, with 16 goals, for Highest Goal Scorer. The Best Team title went to Ungerlong FC, and the two semi-finalists, Ungerlong FC and Telongjem FC, were also acknowledged.
In his address, Chief Guest N Jamonger Ao highlighted the shift in mindset needed towards sports as a profession. He cited examples from international football players like Ronaldo, Messi, and Sadio Mane, emphasizing their contributions to society through initiatives such as building academies and hospitals.
Ao encouraged parents to support their children’s interest in sports, along with a focus on education. He stressed the potential for state development through the emergence of international sports stars.
Emphasizing the importance of balance in life, Ao urged the players to respect each other, showcase their skills, and maintain sportsmanship. He also highlighted the significance of balancing technology use and contributing to society.
