The first ever JIVA Project supported by NABARD in Nagaland was launched in Amahator village under Kiphire district, implemented by Better Life Foundation. The project was launched by Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire Temsuwati Longkumer (NCS) as special guest in the presence of P Bulte, General Manager, NABARD, Nagaland, RO, district administration officials, Agri & Allied Departments, and local self-help groups on May 22.
Speaking at the programme, the DC Kiphire appreciated NABARD and Better Life Foundation for the initiative in empowering farmers in promoting natural and sustainable farming and shifting from chemical chemical-based farming to organic and eco-friendly practices.
He said project like JIVA empowers farmers, protect environment, and ensure long term food security especially in place like Kiphire because of the favourable climatic condition and organic farming practices.
He urged farmers to take full advantage of the assistance and help provided by the government and become a role model for the entire district in improving agricultural output and uplifting the local economy.
He assured the farmers that district administration will always be ready to extend help and co-operation for the overall development of the district.
In a short speech, P Bulte, urged the farmers stating that ‘schemes and project will come only if you make the best use of government help and assistance as schemes and projects are given based on success of the implementation.’
He assured the farmers that basing on the success and outcome of JIVA project more project will be sanctioned if farmers sincerely and with dedication carry forward the project with result.
He added this project is not just about farming, it is about empowering villages, conserving natural resources, and ensuring long-term food security.
Giving brief overview of JIVA Project Sethrichum Sangtam, MD, Better Life Foundation (PIA) stated, the proposed JIVA project aims to empower 30 farmers, including 16 lead farmers, in pilot phase by promoting the adoption of natural farming practices. This pilot phase will emphasise on 365 days of crop cover for food security, income security and national and health security.
The project will include various activities to build capacity and establish foundational system, also training session for lead farmers, exposure visit and the creation of nurseries for a variety of crops such as apple, kiwis, peaches, and tamarillos, Sangtam informed.
On the sideline of the launching programme, one mobile van each were handed over to Amahator and Pungro Farming Society, supported by NABARD and implemented by Better Life Foundation.
