Nagaland Agriculture advisor Mhathung Yanthan inaugurated K. Station Village Rural Haat at K. Station in Tseminyu district on November 5. This marketing shed was funded by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Nagaland Regional Office Dimapur and implemented by Windfall Welfare Society.
Addressing the gathering, Yanthan commended the NABARD for providing this facility to the villagers and hoped that it will go a long way in boosting the rural economy. He also thanked Windfall Welfare Society for initiating the project.
The advisor called upon the farmers to effectively utilize the facility and derive maximum benefit from there. He said that 70% of the population in Nagaland depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Maintaining agriculture as predominant economic activity in Nagaland, he stressed on the need to practice agriculture on a larger scale.
“We need to adopt scientific technology in farming system to improve efficiency and productivity,” Yanthan said. Farming should not be taken as only a traditional practice, he said and urged upon the people to take farming as an enterprise.
Stating that government is there to support the farmer, he called upon the farmers to take advantage of the various programme and schemes designed for them.
Pauliankap Bulte, GM/OIC NABARD Dimapur also spoke on the occasion and called upon the villagers to properly maintain the provided facility. Meshento Ghaponza, chairman, Kandinu Village Council, Mar Longkumer, Chairman, Windfall Welfare Society and Johny G Rengma, BJP senior leader and Director NSTFDC, Ministry of Tribal Affairs also spoke on the occasion.
The land for this Marketing shed was donated by Joel Naga, president, Rising People’s Party (RPP).
Former minister Nillo Rengma also present at the function. The programme was led by Kenneth Kath.
