Niuland, April 18 (MExN): The NACF (Niuland Area Citizen Forum) today reiterated its concern over dilapidated bridge, the only lifeline connecting Niuland district to other parts of Nagaland, and appealed for its redressal by the concerned department.
So much has been said and deliberated over the years regarding the deplorable condition of the bridge, the Forum said, but noted with dismay that “only some minor work/patch work has been carried out by the concern department in recent past.”
‘It is observed that the bridge appears to be losing its life due to quarrying activities in the past and negligence,’ stated a press release from the NACF President, Kakishe Shikhu and Press Secretary, Saul Sema.
“With the only road in shamble and bridge in dire need of repair, the citizens of the newly created district and its surrounding areas of Wokha and Tseminyu are left high and dry for want of good road and safe bridge,” it added.
The forum further said that “tragic memories of 4th Mile bridge collapse and its aftermath sufferings by the commuters still haunts us” and asserted that providing basic infrastructure such as good road is needed for all round development and the denial would be “tantamount to a crime.”
Accordingly, the NACF stated that it is reposing faith in concerned department once again for the “redressal of the grievances before any tragedy strikes.”
