Kohima, October 26 (MExN): Hukato Naga, Chairman & Managing Director of HN Company, Dimapur and Executive Member of NRC1CU passed away following a heart failure in Nottingham, England on October 25. Hukato, who was also Chairman of New Life Bible College and Advisor of Business Association of Nagaland, is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.   Several organisations and individuals have expressed sadness and grief over the death.

CM: Chief Minister TR Zeliang said Hukato was one of the most prominent businessmen and entrepreneurs among the Nagas who struggled very hard to become successful at a crucial period. “He was also a committed social worker…A self-made businessman, his was a rags-to-riches story which has inspired many young entrepreneurs of the State making his name almost a household name,” he stated. “I have often been amazed at his business ventures and used to comment whether he was not taking too much risks to which he would comment that life itself is a risk! A jovial person, he never failed to make those around him laugh and enjoy his company.” The CM further reminisced that Hukato was warm-hearted with a deep sense of trust and loyalty. He also dearly cared for the overall transformation of the society and would often express concern for development of our state whenever we met, Zeliang said, adding Nagas have lost one of the finest personalities in the business profession in his death.

NRC1CU: “Late Hukato Naga was a dedicated member who had concern for the welfare of the Union and had contributed a lot towards its betterment. He was also a great human being and was respected by everyone,” stated a note from NRC1CU president, Seyiekuolie. The union further said that Hukato was a successful contractor and his demise is a loss not only for the union but also for the Nagas.

NPCC: In a separate message, NPCC president, K Therie recollected that Hukato, who is also the brother of Hukiye Tissica, Member, PCC, Aughanato Constituency, was “a very hard working entrepreneur who was able to achieve such a level of success only because of his hard work and dedication.” In his demise, we have lost a talented personality and successful businessman and contractor, it added.

MLA Tovihoto: Meanwhile, MLA Tovihoto Ayemi remembered late Hukato Naga as a God-fearing and humble person who gave a global image to the Naga contractors and businessmen. “His admirable simplicity and efforts to work for peace and reconciliation among the Nagas can be visibly reflected when he hosted the meeting among the different Naga political groups under the aegis of Forum for Naga Reconciliation on September 18, 2010 at his residence in Dimapur. He was a true lover of peace, unity and reconciliation,” Tovihoto said. The MLA further acknowledged that in his demise, Nagas have lost an iconic entrepreneur who rose to high level of success with sheer hard work and dedication.

Er. Picto: Parliamentary Secretary Er. Picto Shohe described Hukato as a very energetic young man with a zeal for social works and church activities. His professionalism in business made him not only a national figure but an international figure as well, Picto said in a condolence note. “What drew people’s admiration for him was his humble and God-fearing personality. He was a very determined and hardworking businessman who rose to success and became an inspiration for many upcoming entrepreneurs.” In his demise, the Naga people have lost a tall figure and it is a loss not only to his family but entire Sumis in particular and Naga community in general, he added.

BAN: Business Association of Nagas (BAN) also stated that Hukato was known for being a self-made man and a first generation successful business man among the Nagas. “A dynamic man and an inspirational figure to Naga business community, words seem inadequate to express the sadness and the vacuum he has created due to his demise and his departure will be deeply missed,” BAN said.

AAUD: Aghunato Areami Union Dimapur (AAUD) attested that Hukato was “a righteous and compassionate man, and indeed a pioneer to our community.” Describing him as a self-made man and a father figure to many, the union said his vision to “uplift our society to work towards a common goal will not go in vain.” His invaluable contribution towards the development of AAUD is a renaissance which can never be forgotten, it added.

All the organisations and individuals offered condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed that God will give them strength and solace to overcome the grief.
