Dimapur, April 4 (MExN): The eight Naga children who were rescued from illegal homes in Jaipur finally reached Dimapur today at around 1 pm.

The children, five girls and three boys were accompanied back to Dimapur by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) of Peren, one member of Child Welfare Committee (Peren), and three police personnel. According to one of the officials, the children will be kept in a shelter home in Dimapur and will undergo counseling since some of the children are still in “trauma” and are “restless.” After their “recovery,” the children will be given assistance to pursue their area of interests, whether it is education or otherwise.

“After hearing the story of the children, we feel sorry for them. They were not sent to schools and also they were found confined in a house with poor ventilation in Jaipur and also they did not get proper nutritious food,” the DCPO of Peren, Samuel Kapu told TOI today.

These eight children were among 51 children who were rescued from two unregistered shelter homes in Jaipur run by one pastor Jacob John on March 12. The children were taken to Jaipur under the pretext of providing good education, but after the raid it was revealed they were neither given education, nor treated well. One of the girls even alleged she was repeatedly raped by Jacob John. All the eight children are reportedly from Peren district.
