Naga Club now has a written constitution

Kohima, November 25 (MExN): The Naga Club now has a written constitution. An official launching programme was held at Hotel Japfü, Kohima on November 24 where officials of Naga Club along with well wishers from different walks of life attended.

A press communiqué issued by Publicity Committee, Centenary Celebration, Naga Club on Sunday said the constitution was released by Caretaker, Naga Club (1965-69) Khyomo Lotha. Walking down memory lane, Lotha recalled that during his time, the Naga club had no written constitution.

“However, those days Naga people were very friendly, honest and truthful among themselves and all the Naga tribes supported Naga Club,” he maintained. Lotha also shared that the Naga Club was well governed by elderly people and “was not organised in any secrecy and was openly accessible by all the concerned Naga people who managed the affairs.”

He further pointed out that even him being made to be the caretaker was neither through election nor appointment but “entrusted in good faith as plainly as it could be.” He acknowledged the efforts made by the Drafting Committee to enable Naga Club to have its own constitution now and at the same time lauded the scope that it can be amended as and when necessary.

Finance Secretary, Naga Club & Convener of Drafting Committee, Kuolachalie Seyie in his opening remark said Naga Club, as an elderly organization, needed to be guided with certain rules and regulation and therefore the constitution.

He said the constitution can be amended and restructured as and when necessary. Seyie further informed that whoever is not affiliated to the Naga Club can join as this institution is for all the Naga people as a whole.

On the occasion, a dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. Dr. Mazie Nakhro while closing remark was proposed by John Lohe, Member Secretary, Drafting Committee.
