DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15 (MExN): The Organising Committee of the Naga Common Platform has urged all Naga stakeholders to extend unconditional support for an early political solution, warning that the present opportunity may not return.
In a statement, the committee said the ceasefires between the Naga political groups and the Government of India, first signed in 1997 and 2001, were meant to enable “free and fair political negotiations” built on mutual trust, emphasising that the ceasefire and talks are “a means and not the end.”
Citing past “regretted” outcomes of previous negotiations, it cautioned against undermining the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position, which it termed the two key documents steering the peace process.
Calling for unity, the committee said missing the current window could force the Nagas “to undertake what we hate,” adding that both a solution or its failure would impact all sections equally. It stressed that raising a collective voice for an early solution is not the responsibility of a few but of every citizen, and appealed for mass participation in the Naga Common Platform event at the Agri Expo on November 18 at 10 am.
The committee said its appeal carries no hidden agenda besides the “healing of our lands,” adding that “if not the truth, nothing else can ever set the Nagas free.”
It further informed that, to preserve the sanctity of the negotiating table, the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) will not be invited to the November 18 programme, allowing negotiators more space for internal discussions.
