Naga Council appeal for upkeep of cemeteries

Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): The executives of the Naga Council Dimapur and it’s sub-committee in-Charge of old Naga Cemetery held a meeting on April 11 in the office of the council to discuss pertinent issues in connection with the maintenance of the old Naga cemetery at Lake view colony, Kher Mahal. W Lemba Chang, General Secretary, Naga Council and Taku Longkumer, Convener, Cemetery Committee informed that the sub-committee shall, as entrusted, look after the maintenance and protection of both the old Naga cemetery at Lake View colony as well as the new Naga cemetery at Zani village.

Also in view of reported thefts and need for upkeep of the old cemetery, the council decided to seek financial contribution from relatives of the “buried ones”, churches whose members are buried in the old cemetery and well-wishers, individuals or organizations. “This is in order to support proper maintenance of the cemetery and protection works. For this purpose, the cemetery committee shall approach pastors and church leaders, and organizations in Dimapur. In view of this, general public, relatives and churches are requested to cooperate in the larger interest of the Dimapurians” the Naga council appealed.
