Naga Council Dimapur reiterates commitment to fight drug menace

Dimapur, April 24 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) stated that it has always been vigilant about report of free availability and uses of illicit narcotic drugs, especially among the youth and even among the school and college going students in Dimapur. 

“Fearing the drug menace and concerning the life and careers of youths, NCD has been appealing time and again in social media to the users and drug cartels/peddlers to say “NO” to drugs,” NCD President, Etsungmomo Kikon and General Secretary, LK Peter Anal stated in a press release. “But, as observed, NCD’s appeal has been heedless as the kingpins of drug cartels/businessmen have established a well-system of drug business clandestinely based in Dimapur,” it regretted. 

Therefore, it reminded all the tribal hohos and community leaders and CSOs based in Dimapur of the joint consultative meeting held on November 30, 2022 in Tourist Lodge Dimapur, wherein, “it was unanimously resolved that authority of every communities, CSOs and tribal hohos shall see that its members should not indulge in any illicit business (including narcotic drugs and liquor), indulge in multiple taxation, coercive extortion/donations, syndicating Dimapur market etc.”

Reiterated the 2022 resolution, NCD once again appealed all the leaders of different communities in Dimapur to remind all their respective members and citizens “to make Dimapur a well groomed place to live in and its people as law-abiding people.”

Commends police for napping drug trafficker
Meanwhile, NCD paid salute to the Nagaland Police along with Arunachal Police and West Bengal Police counterparts for “apprehending an important drug trafficker, Md Hassan Uddin alias Hassan Mamu, a resident of Dimapur, from Arunachal Pradesh.” 

Recently, Nagaland Police has also arrested a major narcotic drug trafficker, Bahar Uddin, another resident of Dimapur.
It appreciated the Nagaland Director General Police, Robin Sharma, IPS and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Kevithuto Spophie, IPS, for apprehending the “most dangerous kingpin drug peddlers with their concerted efforts and supervision.”

Besides maintaining law and order in the State, Nagaland Police Department has formulated holistic strategies to contain and eradicate drugs trafficking in the State for safety and well-being of the youths at large. To this end, under the head of the Department, Robin Sharma, IPS, DGP, “the strategies so formulated has been implementing effectively in spirit and principle as evident with the arrest of two professional kingpins of drug traffickers who are operating in the State and the North East region,” NCD stated. 

It further appreciated the Muslim Council Dimapur for initiating necessary action to its member Bahar Uddin for illegal drug trafficking in Dimapur.
