DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (MExN): In its first meeting this year, the Naga Council Dimapur today presented reports of its projects, namely the Cemetery (New), Mhalie Park and Office and Building projects. “The Master Plan/Design and Estimates of the above Projects were thoroughly debated upon and unanimously voted and approved by the House,” the minutes of the meeting said. The executive committee and the concerned sub-committees were entrusted to take up the projects for further necessary action and implementation.
The council’s proposed budget was presented by the Treasurer and after thorough discussion, the House approved the budget, Naga Council President Savi Liegise said. “The Naga Council Election Commission of January 2005 which submitted its reservations and recommendation on 23rd January 2005 seeking incorporation of the same in the Constitution, were thoroughly discussed and debated upon. The House unanimously approved and voted to enforce the same in toto with immediate effect and voted to stand by the Executive Notification dated 24-05-2006.”
Savi said the House further discussed the recurrence of random assaults upon innocent civilians by cadres of GPRN and Security Forces in Dimapur with special reference to the brutal assault on Mhachi Odyuo, debate secretary of Dimapur Lotha Students Union on May 11. The House condemned the incident and decided to appeal to look into the case seriously and take necessary measures to control future occurrences in the interest of peace and justice.
“On the agenda on public inconveniences in LPG distribution, pensioners’ woes, telephone bill payments and banking transactions where the general public face extreme difficulties leading to untoward incidents, the House entrusted its Vigilance Committee to investigate these complaints in order to properly address public grievances.”
The Naga Council further thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Industries Minister Khekiho Zhimomi, former Deputy Commissioner Hekali Zhimomi and present Dimapur Deputy Commissioner KN Ngullie for rendering their support in its initiatives.
Before the official business of the House began, a one minute silent prayer was observed in memory of former presidents Late NT Longkumer and Late Horangse Sangtam.
