Naga doctors come under new service rules

Kohima, Aug 5 (PTI): Bridging the gap between general doctors and specialists to improve the healthcare system in Nagaland, the state government has drastically changed existing health service rules and amalgamated two directorates of health care administration into a single department.

Announcing yesterday’s cabinet decision to this effect, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr T M Lotha told newsmen here that the two existing directorates of medical services and health services would be amalgamated into a single directorate to be named as the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare.

With the amalgamation of the two directorates, the two warring doctors association, one representing general doctors and the other comprising specialists, would automatically become a single platform, bringing to end 14 years of bitter rivalry among the government doctors, which had many a time crippled health care delivery system in the state. The minister said the amended rules, formulated after the high-power committee submitted its report to the government, would improve the healthcare system in rural areas as the new rules would ensure medical and paramedical staff in community health centers (CHC), primary health centers (PHC).
