Naga entrepreneurs to protect rights; foster healthy environment

Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): In a positive step towards strengthening and promoting entrepreneurship among Nagas, the first meeting of the union of Naga entrepreneurs was held in Dimapur today. A conglomeration of Naga entrepreneurs in Dimapur, the infant association has a lot of promising objectives which could herald the growth of entrepreneurship among Nagas.

The Naga Entrepreneurs Union has been formed with the aim to promote the welfare of the Naga business community, Interim Chairman of the Union, Isaac Zhimomi said. A long felt necessarily of entrepreneurs, Zhimomi said that the objective of the Union would be to protect the rights of entrepreneurs; promote and foster healthy business environment. The Union will disseminate resourceful knowledge to customers; facilitate and act as an interface with the government agencies, institutions and other recognized bodies, he added.

Calling entrepreneurs to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship, and make the union a living force and a trendsetter for others to follow, Zhimomi said that the Union envisaged playing a constructive role in the society. With lack of capital, underdeveloped skills in business management and limited market contacts, the Union wishes to also promote demand and supply aspects of our entrepreneurs; try to generate internal or external revenues and try to facilitate micro-credit or limited lending to the deserving entrepreneurs at subsidized rates. Naga Entrepreneurs Union is also open to affiliate with other unions and organizations having similar aims and objectives.

The Union shall also undertake any such activity within the legal framework in matters and issues detrimental to the integrity, progress and growth of the union. Zhimomi emphasized on the need to also keep the union free from hatred, hostility, tribalism and personal interests but for the common good. “The time has come for each one of us to encourage support and promote each other,” he said.

Dimapur Chamber of Commerce president Kasheto Yepthomi also hailed the Association as an epitome of entrepreneurship in Nagaland. He said that entrepreneurs can now collectively voice their grievances against rampant taxation by different organisations. Yepthomi said that the Association could provide local entrepreneurs opportunities to come under one umbrella and confront issues together. He advised the Association to act responsibly and make Dimapur a prosperous city.
