DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 30 (MExN): The Naga Hoho today expressed concern at the recent investigations into Nagaland government departments by the National Investigating Agency (NIA), leading to arrests of government officials for providing financial aid to different Naga political groups/national workers.
A press note from the Naga Hoho Assembly Secretary, K Elu Ndang and General Secretary, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu said that while the NIAs actions may be the exercise of fulfilling constitutional provision and the law of the land, “but at the same time the different Indian agencies must look into the problems from social and political perspective.”
“We strongly feel that be it government employees or businessman is providing the assistance willingly or unwillingly but under compulsion and therefore the arrested government officials should not be treated as law breakers,” the Naga Hoho stated. It appealed to the NIA to “ponder with all seriousness and avoid misdemeanors while dealing with such issues.”
“The conduct of NIA merely on suspicion was uncalled for and beyond tolerance,” it added. “The need of the hour is to focus seriously towards early political settlement so as to eradicate all forms of social problems and injustice in our society,” it said.
The Naga Hoho therefore urged upon the authorities to “stop investigation and drop cases against the government officials as demanded by the Confederation of the All Nagaland Service Employees Association (CANSEA) and discontinue with the trial of those arrested persons and look beyond the horizon by realizing the plight and rights of the people.”
