Naga Hoho denounces encroachment, says Intangki a national property

Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): The Naga Hoho today denounced all forms of encroachment into ‘people’s land or property’ and has demanded that the Nagaland government “bring out logical conclusion” to the ongoing Ndangki National Park imbroglio and safeguard the forest.
Referring to the heightening tensions between the Zeliangrong communities and the Sumi tribe, the Naga Hoho said the reserved forest does not belong to any individual or a “single tribe” but a national property of the Naga people. The organization issued a statement today expressing serious concern at the escalating communal tension “pertaining to the unfortunate incident occur red at Inavi village on June 30, 2011.” The organization’s president Keviletuo Kiewhuo and general secretary P Chuba Ozukum appended the statement.
The ‘hoho’ chided the two sides for their ‘highly inflammatory statements’ and termed the exchange as “something devoid of oneness and common cause.” The reason is, the Naga Hoho reminded, Ndangki forest is not belong to any individual or single tribe. ‘It is a national property for all Naga generations to come,” the statement stated.
“In this backdrop, the Naga Hoho shall at any cost protest all forms of illegal encroachment into people’s land or property and appeal to state government once again to bring out logical conclusion at the earliest towards safeguarding the Ndangki National Park in the interest of common people,” the Naga Hoho said.
Presently the Naga people are entrapped in all forms of problems in their search for permanent peace, the apex Naga tribal body said. The Naga Hoho appeals to every individual and organizations to stand above “self esteem or tribal color and look beyond horizon.” The ‘hoho’ appeals to the Sumi and Zeliangrong to ensure utmost restraint by respecting their other Naga brethrens and search for harmony based on “the Naga traditional way of solving conflicts.”
The statement referred to the organization’s 9th general session in Peren in 2008 where the Naga organizations reaffirmed respect for other community’s territorial space and boundaries. The resolution had stated the “common desire for unity of all Naga people and land wherein the mutual respect for each other’s community territorial space and boundaries are upheld and the acknowledgement of traditional ownership are firmly established and respected while acknowledging the right to settlement of any Naga throughout the Naga homeland.”
Likewise, the Naga Hoho referred to another resolution during its 3rd federal assembly in Mokokchung on July 7, 2010. It stated – “the joint declaration of Naga Hoho, ENPO, Nagaland Government and the Opposition party of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for protection and preservation of Ndangki Forest and also resolved that the same position would hold in respect of all national properties”.

Tribal slur over Intangki irks Sumi Hoho

Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho is irked at what it called the “repeated usage of defamatory remarks’ by the Teniyimi Public Organization, Zeliangrong Baudi and Beisumpuikam Village Council. A note from the Sumi Hoho leadership today noted the use of statements such as “land grabbers from Zunheboto, “certain tribe from Zunheboto”, “this is Peren district not Zunheboto” and “Sema tribesmen and so on and so forth.”
The Sumi Hoho does not want to “stop low like TPO, ZB (N) and BVC in mudslinging politics under the pretext of preserving and protecting Intangki, the note said. However, “crossing all the limits beyond human comprehension as if Intangki is their sole property is compelled to seek clarification and demand for public apology as to why the entire Sumi are being grabbed in all their statement.”
The ‘hoho’ questioned whether the “motive behind their assertion is a direct challenge to Sumi people in all respect.” The Sumi Hoho asks the stated organizations “not to misunderstood our silence as weakness as it may invite poisonous evil rather than extreme good in coming years out of this.”
