Naga Hoho General Secretary clarifies

Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): With regard to the news article titled “After Big Win in Assam, BJP eyes Nagaland; seek to take advantage of rift in the ruling Party” written by Kangkan Acharyya and published in this paper on June 14, General Secretary of Naga Hoho has clarified that the writer had “completely distorted our interaction.”

In a press clarification, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, General Secretary, Naga Hoho recounted that Acharyya had called him through phone and introduced himself as a reporter for CNN IBN and that he desired to see him. “Since he persisted, I agreed to meet him,” Mutsikhoyo said.

The two met at the NSF Office on June 8 around 3:30 pm. “When we met I told him that if he desired to meet the Naga Hoho he should have met my President, i.e., the president of the Naga Hoho, but he said he personally wanted to meet me regarding my personal opinions about the present political scenario in the North East. I implicitly told him that I was not a politician and moreover I being a member of the Naga Hoho cannot make any statements with political overtones but that the Naga Hoho stands for an honourable Naga political settlement,” the clarification read.

In the course of their discussion, Mutsikhoyo said, he had among other things said it was by his own choice that Rio decided to become an MP by vacating his seat as CM. “Also that if and when Rio decides to come back to state politics he would try to come back as CM and not as a mere MLA.” Hence, Mutsikhoyo asserted that the statements ascribed to him in the article are not true. He further added that the above opinions shared by him were purely his personal opinions and not of the Naga Hoho.
