• Five-member search committee set up

• Naga Hoho constitution to be reviewed

• Condemns alleged atrocities by Indian Army at Longding

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 28 (MExN): The present tenure of the incumbent Naga Hoho has been extended for another three months till a new set of leadership takes over the mantle.

This was resolved during the 4th Naga Hoho Federal Assembly held on November 28, a press statement issued by pre-tem speaker NG Gilbert and assembly secretary K Elu Ndang informed.

At the same time, it was unanimously resolved to set up a search/nomination committee for the next tenure with the following members- TN Mannen as Convenor and Niketu Iralu, Dr. P Ngully, Inavi Swu and president, United Naga Council (UNC) as members.

The terms of reference of the search committee include mediating with all the dissociated tribe Hohos/ constituent units of Naga Hoho while setting up the new team of office bearers of the Naga Hoho.

The committee must complete its assignment within 3 (three) months. If the search committee completes its assignment before the stipulated time frame, the three months extended tenure of the present Naga Hoho team shall automatically cease after a symbolic ceremony of handing and taking over to the new team of office bearers.

The house also felt the need to review the constitution/yehzabo of Naga Hoho. In this connection, a committee with the following members Achumbemo Kikon as Convenor, K Elu Ndang and president UNC was constituted with directive to submit its report within 30 (thirty) days.

Questioning the functioning of the dy. speaker/ acting speaker, the house advised the concerned to desist from conflicting with the Executive Council but to function in tune with the Executive Council.

Further, the house endorsed the executive council to officially communicate to the Rengma Hoho to relieve Kenyungseng Tep either from the post of deputy speaker, Naga Hoho or from the post of president, Rengma Hoho as “he has not been doing justice to his assigned post because of holding dual posts.”

Meanwhile, the august house noted with all seriousness on the prevailing situation and killings amongst the Naga family by warring groups/factions. While condemning all forms of violence in the Naga areas particularly in the Zeliangrong areas, the house appealed to all groups to shun violence and maintain peace for the cause of a united Naga family.

It also took serious note on the recent incident of atrocities allegedly carried out by the Indian Army to innocent Naga people with special reference to Longkhojan village of Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting strongly asserted that it was a blatant misuse of power by the Army under the Armed forces special powers Act.

The House further noted with discontentment over the slow pace of ongoing peace process and inability to bring honourable political settlement on the part of Government of India, which has resulted in further fragmentation and complexities among the Naga masses due to delaying tactics being exhibited by the GoI.
