Kohima, February 26 (MExN): With regard to the harassment of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) officials by Manipur Police Commandos in Imphal on February 14, the Naga Hoho has applauded the NSF for “enabling and waking up the Manipur Government and making the Manipur Government call and accept a crime as a crime.” The NSF officials were on their way to Ukhrul to attend the Lui Ngai Ni festival when the incident happened.
A press release from Naga Hoho Secretary (Administration), Chitho Nyusou alleged that the erring jawans were “well aware of the dignitaries travelling in the entire state of Manipur enroute to Ukhrul that fateful morning.”
The Naga Hoho further recognized the “sincere effort” of the Manipur Government, particularly the Deputy Inspector General of Police who was the Investigation Officer of the case and the President of NSF for bringing the situation between the two neighboring states into normalcy.
The Hoho also maintained that language, which is one’s own pride, should not be imposed upon innocent travellers, be it in Nagaland or in Manipur. It also hoped that security forces manning the check gates in both the states will honour and respect one another in the future.
