Naga Hoho, NSF calls for conciliatory moves

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 28 (MExN): Naga civil society today urged Naga political groups to compete with each other in initiating conciliatory moves rather than resort to negative public exchanges through the media. The Naga Hoho and Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) called upon all Naga political groups to make conciliatory gestures so that the highest level meeting of leaders can take place soon.
Different Naga political groups must be driven by the motto “who makes the first move”, rather than wait for another group to initiate, the Naga Hoho said. H.K. Zhimomi speaker and P.Chuba Ozukum general secretary of the apex Naga body said it was alarmed and worried that obstacles are being engineered between erstwhile conflicting groups which are currently pursuing a reconciliatory course.
Naga Hoho appealed for “utmost restraint” on the part of all Naga political groups so that the highest level meeting can materialise under the initiative of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation. Expressing concern over witnessing a blame game and media war among different political groups, the Hoho said “failure to put into practice the mandate given by the Naga Organizations will be against the wishes and aspiration of the people.”
Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) said all the Naga national groups should honour and respect their commitment given to the Naga people. “We appeal to all the groups to restrain themselves from creating further divisions among themselves but come together for the just cause of the Naga people,” said a statement issued by Kelhouneizo Yhome speaker and Mutsikhoyo Yhobu president of the apex Naga student body.
Propagating peace and reconciliation amongst all the Naga national groups, the NSF reiterated their unstinted support towards the stance of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) in trying to resolve the difference amongst the National workers.
NSF said signing of the Covenant of Reconciliation has “brought about hope and elevated the aspirations of the younger generation towards a brighter future” and a resolution to the Naga political issue.
“The desire of the younger generation is to see all the groups come together with a forgiving attitude in order to create a conducive atmosphere,” it added.
Further, the Federation urged all Naga national groups to make way for the highest level meeting without further delay.
