Says solution eludes Naga people despite more than eight years of BJP rule
Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has questioned the ‘sincerity and habitual rhetoric’ of the Government of India with regard to Indo-Naga political settlement, pointing out that the BJP-led government has failed to address the wishes of the Naga people.
In a press statement received here on Saturday, the Naga Hoho, through its Communication Cell, stated that the Government of India has failed to address the wishes of the Naga people despite committing to ‘Election for Solution’ during the run-up to the 2018 state General Election in Nagaland.
According to the statement, the Prime Minister of India had given 18 months to bring Indo-Naga political solution after the assumption of office in 2014; however, “even after more than eight years of BJP Government, solution seems to elude the Naga people without finding out any tangible settlement,” it stated.
The Government of India (GoI) is well aware that more than twenty five years has gone ever since the signing of Indo-Naga cease-fire with the objectives for finding out Indo-Naga political settlement, it added.
The Naga Hoho went on to state that the Naga peace Accord which is believed to be at its final stage and likely to culminate anytime, “seems to be never ending political negotiations.” It also alleged that “India has employed the colonial policy of further divides and fragmentation of the Naga people despite recognition of Naga political problem as unique situation and history.”
“The grand signing of ‘Framework Agreement’ on August 3, 2015 and the acknowledgement by the Prime Minister of India has turned into a dark history. The act of GoI is disgraceful to the peace loving people in different parts of the world as it continues to wield the draconian laws and easing the Naga people with false promises,” the statement read.
