Naga Idol to rechristen as Naga Orpheus Hunt

MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 25 (DIPR): Naga Idol, the most popular show in Nagaland State, which has been running with tremendous success for five seasons, will be given a new name to make it a distinct Naga identity to the show.
According to Mokokchung District Art & Culture Council (MDACC) the Naga Idol show is a borrowed concept from American Idol. But MDACC no longer feel comfortable with the term Idol for the show as they are not a franchisee of American Idol (and its owner). Therefore, the MD ACC has decided to rechristen the Naga idol show as the Naga Orpheus Hunt. It said, the new name was coined after the legendary musician and poet Orpheus from Greek Mythology.
“We have not felt comfortable about using the term Idol for our show as we are not a franchisee to American Idol (and its owner). Hence we have decided to rechristen the Naga Idol as the Naga Orpheus Hunt.” the MDACC said adding the advantage of the new brand name is that Orpheus is not a copyrighted brand name and it is as easy to pronounce as Idol. It also gave a distinct Naga identity to the show.   Meanwhile, rechristening of the Naga Idol and launching of the show will be held at Cosmos Hall, Mokokchung on 26th August, 2011 where Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio will be the Chief guest.
