The Government of Nagaland's ambitious plan to develop a 'new modern planned city' at Chathe Valley appears to be gaining momentum, with another crucial meeting scheduled for July 8.
Deputy Commissioner Chümoukedima, Abhinav Shivam has issued a notification inviting concerned landowners to attend the meeting at Town Hall Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, starting at 11 AM.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss matters related to the acquisition of land for the proposed ‘Naga Ki’ City.
According to the State DIPR, all landowners in the proposed site at Chathe Valley, Medziphema Sub-Division under Chümoukedima district, have been invited to participate.
This marks the second notification in two months concerning the proposed city's development.
Earlier in May, DC Chümoukedima had issued an order declaring the acquisition of 330 hectares of land at Chathe Valley for the establishment of the envisioned city.
The designated area spans between Molvom Village and Chathe River (Chathe Prayer Centre), with boundaries defined as North – Molvom Village, South – Chathe River, East – Railway Line/New Socunoma Village, and West – Ruzaphema Village.
The land is situated between Molvom, New Socunoma and Ruzaphema, it added.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio first publicly announced the concept of the 'new modern planned city' during the 77th Independence Day celebrations in Kohima on August 15, 2023.
He then disclosed that the Urban Development Department had submitted a detailed proposal to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the incubation of the new city.
The planned city is set to cover approximately 39 square kilometres in Chathe Valley, Chümoukedima district, aimed at enhancing ease of business and attracting potential investors to establish a sustainable commercial hub for the state and region, he said.
Chief Minister Rio reiterated the government's commitment during the 2024-25 State Budget presentation on February 27 this year, announcing Rs 150 crore for land acquisition and development projects related to Naga Ki city.
An additional Rs 9 crore was earmarked for the Urban Development sector, including the master plan for Naga Ki City.
