In a show of solidarity to the joint initiative of two apex bodies - Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and United Naga Council (UNC) - in pursuing concerned authority to expedite the process of delimitation in Manipur without any further delay, the Kuki Students’ Organization General headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have called 122-hour Manipur bandh on January 11.
The bandh begin from 5 am and ends at 5 pm. In a joint press statement issued today to NNN, the KSO (GHQ) president, P. Simte and ANSAM president Paul Langhu stated that the bandh is being called to demand the early execution of delimitation exercise in the state and to register protest over the cancellation of three subdivisions of Senapati district in the 2001 census report.
Conveying resentment over the cancellation of Census 2001 in three sub-divisions of Mao-Maram, Purul and Paomata in Senapati district, the statement termed the exclusion of three subdivisions in the census report as “unconstitutional”. It also, while demanding the inclusion of the three sub-divisions in the census report of 2001, maintained that the annulment of the three sub-divisions from census 2001 record amounts to “direct insult and de-recognition to the existence of the tribal people”.
The joint statement further cautioned that any delay in carrying out delimitation process in the state may invite ‘unwarranted’ problems. It also appealed all like-minded civil organization to extend support to the bandh. The KSO and ANSAM have however announced that medical department, security forces, electricity department, public health engineering department and all religious programmes falling on the day may be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
