A felicitation ceremony cum press conference was organised in honour of Pongom Lam by the Thang Students’ Union (TSU) this afternoon here, at Tourist Lodge. Pongom Lam is a writer who has authored three books and an awardee of the Youth Impact Award 2022 and Best Poet of the Year 2022 by the Voice of North East (VON) Words Fest 2022.

Speaking at the event, Lam expressed his gratitude to the TSU for organising such an event and said that he is humbled and honored by this kind gesture. He acknowledged God in winning two awards in a row in the field of literature among the North East of India, while maintaining that this is a small beginning of victories in his life. While awards or success is a blessing from God, Lam held that it requires a lot of hardwork and effort. Lam started his writing journey in the year 2017 with his debut book titled, "The Hardship of Life." His second book titled "Being And Time" was published in 2018  and the latest titled "Footprints" was published in 2021, which is his first collection of poems. His muse for writing comes through observation of the way of life and living with nature. "Master yourself, because it is the most powerful weapon. You are the captain of your destiny," Lam put across a message to the aspiring writers. He said that whatever task we take up, we must give our heart and soul to achieve our dreams. All men are alike in their promise, but what they do and their deeds makes the difference, opined Lam while adding that it is our actions today that will define our tomorrow.

A member of the Khiamniungan Union Dimapur (KUD) also spoke during the event, appreciating Lam for bringing laurels to the Khiamniungan community and the Nagas as a whole. Regretting that many youths are going astray, he was hopeful that young lads like Lam should lead the way forward to bring youths in the right direction. He wished Lam that this recognition will not stop here but that he will go on to achieve more success and be a torch bearer for the close-knit youths of the community as well.

Acknowledging Lam in his success, Vice President of Khiamniungan Students' Union Dimapur (KSUD) also expressed optimisim that the young minds will be inspired through this event and that they will continue to pursue and strive for God's purpose in their lives. The event was attended by the members of TSU, KUD, KSUD, friends and wellwishers. To get a copy of his books, one can reach out on his Instagram handle: pongom_lam.
