Hill Theatre artists stage the Naga musical “The Land Where Silence Sings” at Town Hall, Dimapur on September 10.
Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): Hill Theatre, a Nagaland-based theatre group, staged its latest Naga musical “The Land Where Silence Sings” at Town Hall, Dimapur leaving the audience spellbound with a production that blends folk music, contemporary sound design and physical theatre.
The play, staged on Thursday evening, explores the untold stories, memories and resilience of the Naga hills — where silence itself becomes a song.
Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Appreciating the effort of the young theatre practitioners, Metha said such productions are vital to preserve and project Naga identity and narratives to the world. He lauded Hill Theatre for bringing a refined and rooted theatrical voice from Nagaland.
The play is an outcome of a 30-day production-oriented theatre workshop organised and supported by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, in collaboration with Hill Theatre. The team acknowledged NSD's mentorship in shaping their artistic journey. Speaking on the occasion, Hill Theatre director Bendang Walling thanked The Maple Tree School for their support and expressed special gratitude to the Ao Students' Union, Dimapur, for letting them use their space for the workshop during the month-long creation process.
The performance was attended by theatre lovers, students, members of the media fraternity and cultural enthusiasts from across Dimapur.
The audience gave a standing ovation, moved by the play’s poignant take on belonging, loss and hope.
