Naga national flag, constitution non-negotiable terms: NSCN (IM)

DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Saturday reiterated its non-negotiable terms for any future political settlement in the Indo-Naga peace talks.  It asserted that any settlement must recognize Nagalim’s sovereignty, including its national flag and national constitution which shall be integral in the political agreement.

The NSCN (IM) maintained that its Chief Political Negotiator and General Secretary, Th Muivah had made ‘crystal clear’ that the letter and spirit of the Amsterdam Joint communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework agreement of August 3, 2015 are non-negotiable and the final benchmark for an honorable negotiated political settlement between Nagalim and India.

Furthermore, it said “any Accord or agreement that has been signed by/with any group within the constitution of India excluding the non-negotiable sovereign Nagalim National Flag and Constitution is a betrayal to the Nagalim national decision of August 14, 1947 and the May 16, 1951 plebiscite for a sovereign independent Nagalim nation.”

The NSCN (IM) warned that any attempt to undermine these principles would be unacceptable and could derail the peace process.

The statement comes in the wake of what the NSCN (IM) described as a new phase of “Indian state terrorism” and a “divide and conquer” strategy, aimed at disrupting the ongoing negotiations. It alleged that the Indian government’s failure to resolve the Indo-Naga political conflict through negotiations has led to the use of divisive tactics, including instigating factions and conspiring with pro-India “non-political Naga ruling elites” and its own affiliates.

The NSCN (IM) also rejected the idea of consulting with the Nagaland GB Federation or any apex tribal bodies on a common platform for resolution outside the parameters of the 2002 Joint Communiqué and 2015 Framework Agreement. It stressed that it has never endorsed such initiatives, which it believes are designed to undermine the agreed-upon frameworks.

The NSCN (IM) counseled the GoI and its agencies not to indulge in another misadventure with its “own employees” and “non-political body” which will seriously jeopardized the Indo-Naga political peace dialogue between the GoI and the NSCN and that will have serious negative ramification.
